Motivation:
I am more than happy to be rejected, if after review it feels the work is not sufficient for the journal. However, this should never take 5 months to decide - why allow a paper to go to review if there isn't enough data to make it interesting enough for the readers. Felt like a massive waste of time, of which I also had to chase up the editor.
